Of course, everyone has been noting Senator Lindsey Graham telling Judge Sotomayor during her confirmation hearing "Unless you have a complete meltdown, you're going to get confirmed."... What hasn't been mentioned so much was his follow up statement "The drama being created here is interesting."

Hmmm... a rare instance of unintentional honesty from the South Carolina senator? Because let's face it, these hearings are exactly that... "Created Drama"... there is no actual doubt about the outcome of this nomination... Nor is there anything going on in this hearing that is going to chenge the vote of one single senator or the opinion of anyone watching them... Instead it is simply another forum for the various senators to state their pre-determined opinions and to grandstand and condescend both to the judge and the American people... To make themselves look good in front of their constituents... "See how tough I was on Obama's nominee"...

But mostly it's a chance to get eight more minutes of TV time... and compete for the evening's soundbite... A competition it appears that Senator Graham has won for the moment... Even if it is for the wrong statement...
